If you are looking to overcome your business fears, then possibly you should do something that scares you! Doesn’t this seem oxymoronic? Yet, it has been encouraged, over and over.
“Do one thing every day that scares you.” Eleanor Roosevelt
Your comfort zone. It’s a great place. You’ve decorated it nicely. You’re used to it. And it’s got everything you need. Except…it doesn’t have continuing growth… and bigger success. Oh, and doesn’t have more income… and greater meaning… or impact… with a future. Aside from that, it’s fabulous! LOL
You can’t achieve anything new by doing the same things you’ve been doing. In order to get something you’ve never had, you have to be willing to do something you’ve never done. Doing something that scares you will help overcome business fears.
And doing something new can be scary. One of the oldest emotions we have is “fear of the unknown.”
What would your life look like if you took Mrs. Roosevelt’s advice? How would you feel after a week, a month, even a year of doing things that scare you? Why not give it a try? If, just for today.
Is your business being slowed down because of this?
So, what’s the definition of scary in this context? Well, it’s going to be different for each person. You get to decide.

Now is the time to add GOALS that scare you to overcome business fears!
Now let’s be clear, I’m not talking about stupid scary dangerous things like stepping in front of a bus, or blow drying your hair in the shower.
It also can’t be something you are forced to do like holiday dinner with your in-laws or an afternoon at the dentist. I’m talking about things that you regularly avoid – especially if it’s something you know you should do.
Since I’m a business mentor, I encourage you to make sure you do some things in your business that “scare” you. When my clients say, “I’ve done everything but I still can’t get any clients!” we usually can find something (or more than one thing) they are not doing because it’s outside of their comfort zone. After clients do try something scary and they survive or more importantly gain a client, add revenue, gain a new insight, they often often want to tackle more fears. Sometimes, the scary things don’t work out, but that’s ok too.
How to tackle business fears as an entrepreneur
Remember: Courage is not the absence of fear, but, feeling the fear and taking the action anyway. Write down a couple of business aspects that scare you. Is it the ever evolving technology you want to use? Is it a new approach with a prospect? It is creating new copy to help describe your business? Pick the least scary and give it try. Review and measure the outcome. Possibly an accountability partner will help give you the encouragement? Ever small victory will drive your business to overcome business fears!
