There’s an old Chinese saying that goes, “If you stay on the path you are on, you will surely end up where you are going.”
Clever folks those Chinese. It is true that even if you don’t have a clear plan or you don’t know where you are going, you will end up somewhere. The trouble is it may not be the somewhere you wanted to go.
Without having a compelling vision for your business (i.e. one that really excites and motivates you), odds are you’re not going to end up where you want to.
Either you are a beginner or a seasoned veteran, make sure you have a well-defined idea of the kind of business style and lifestyle you want to achieve.
A great exercise is to actually take some time to sit down and visualize your ideal scenario. What do you want your life and your business to look like six months from now? A year from now? Five years? Go into as much detail as you can.
A way to do that is to write down in detail a description of an average day in your perfect imagined life. Begin with waking up. Then, go all the way through your day till going to sleep.
This becomes a written vision map of the future you intend to head into. Actually writing this out is crucial (not just thinking about it) because…
- It moves those thoughts out of the realm of “daydreaming” into the world of goals and planning.
- It automatically becomes a written contract with yourself, which usually sparks personal motivation to achieve it.
- It makes you define clearly what your goals are. Writing them down encourages you to state what you want in much greater detail.
- It frees your mind of perpetually thinking of and “remembering” your goals.
Give it a try. Indulge in some creative visualization! It’s time to start making your dreams a reality.
